                                           My Teacup Chihuahua, Mila

These little teacup Chihuahuas are so precious and adorable. They can melt your heart like a Ferrier can melt and shape iron over a hot flame. However, today I want to talk about them a little bit to bring awareness of the issues that come with a dog that is bred for his small size on purpose. Mila was born as a Preemie. She was super small and weight only 2 ounces. This sweet little girl comes with a lot of health issues sadly to say, and it breaks my heart to find breeders who still consider this ethical

Do Your research On Teacup Chihuahuas

When I first searched for a small Chihuahua, I did not know anything about the practices that some breeders use to keep their dogs small, so they can call them teacup Chihuahuas. And I’m not here to talk about those practices. I’m here to talk about how to do it right for the dogs sake. Just think about you were created by the people with certain structures, regardless towards your health, and knowing that it would bring problems in that department. How absurd is that? Guess what I know what it takes to breed healthy, right proportioned dogs and I will do everything in my power to do so.

                                                    About the grooming .

The short haired Chihuahua just needs to be based and have their nails trimmed periodically, and they are good to go . However, the long-haired Chihuahua will require more brushing since their coats are longer and fluffy.. you really wouldn’t want their hair to tangle and Matt, especially under the arms and on the side or next to the ears since that can be very painful to remove.

These Chihuahuas are the perfect traveling companions you can have it really can’t get any easier.                                      The tiny Teacup Chihuahuas are fragile

The Chihuahua breed can be easily injured by something as simple as following of the bed or a chair but also if you step on its foot. They may seem strong, but their bones and joints can be severely damaged, if allowed to jump of high places, and I advice against such a behavior and suggest to help them getting up and down.

As it is with all animals healthcare is important for these little guys

If your little Chihuahua, not cared for properly, it could force you to spend a lot of money at the vet, and a lot of pain for the pup.  It starts with clothing when it is cold to keeping their teeth brushed and giving them healthy food amongst a lot of other things that are necessary. Health Issues and Care

Understanding Potential Health Concerns: Like any dog breed, Long Haired Chihuahuas are susceptible to certain health issues. Being aware of these conditions can help you provide appropriate care and seek timely veterinary attention when needed.  When it comes to the Chihuahua breed, there are always risks involved, due to the small breed, but when you try to breed them extra small, then you’re almost asking for trouble with these little guys. Take Mila my little Girl for instants, she suffers from a multitude of health issues. And it breaks my heart to see her suffer when they act up.

Common health concerns for Teacup Chihuahuas include:

Dental Health: Small dog breeds, including all Chihuahuas, are prone to dental problems such as gum disease and tooth decay. Regular dental care, including brushing their teeth and providing dental treats or toys, is crucial in maintaining their oral hygiene and overall health.

Patellar Luxation: Patellar luxation, a condition where the kneecap dislocates from its normal position, can affect also all Chihuahuas. Regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding excessive jumping or rough play can help reduce the risk of this condition. If you notice any limping or discomfort, consult your veterinarian.

Heart Issues: Chihuahuas, including  the Teacup variety, are prone to heart problems such as heart murmurs and mitral valve disease. Regular veterinary check-ups and an appropriate diet can help monitor and manage these conditions effectively.

Hypoglycemia: Due to their extra small size, the Teacup Chihuahua can be susceptible to low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia). Especially if they have inherited the G1 Exxon 5 gene from both parents. It is essential to provide them with regular meals and monitor their energy levels. If you notice signs of weakness, trembling, or disorientation, seek immediate veterinary attention.

Regular Veterinary Care: To ensure the overall well-being of your Teacup Chihuahua, regular veterinary check-ups are crucial. Vaccinations, parasite prevention, and routine examinations help identify and address any health concerns promptly.
